Human Recourses: Rethinking Success
Human Recourses is a conceptual project that challenges perceptions of men, success and paternity. Current perceptions of masculinity are often rooted in success connected to remuneration, and power associated with corporate structures. Domestic work and child care isn't given the same status, with many women and men describing it as a gap on their CV.
Throughout my children’s development knowledge regarding their health, their well being and their contact with schools and health practitioners is always assumed to be the preserve of my civil partner. As a male primary carer my knowledge and success is generally sidelined even when my partner refers to me as being an equal hive of knowledge regarding our children.
The project uses corporate terminology to highlight the importance of parental equity and question the status of those who look after children compared with working individuals, as well as demonstrating that men should be more visible within a domestic environment.
